Firestop Design

FireBig provides professional firestop design for all types of building projects. Firestopping prevents personal and property damage by stopping the spread of fire, heat, smoke and toxic gases beyond the fire compartment in buildings.

We provide firestop designs as 3D models when needed. FireBig also acts as a consultant for firestop design, offering expert services, VSS inspections, firestop and compartmentation condition assessments as well as emergency evacuation plans.

These techniques ensure the fire compartmentation of the building’s structural elements. As a result, fire, smoke and toxic gases are prevented from spreading through cables and pipes that pass through compartments. A well-designed and executed firestop also acts as an acoustic and odor barrier, enhancing living comfort.

The firestop design must meet the requirements set by building regulations. The design is submitted to the building control authority during the design phase of the project, prior to implementation. Without an approved and executed firestop design, the building cannot be occupied. The firestop design itself is prepared by a specialist designer. The design is finalised once other specialist designs (structural, fire, acoustic, HVAC, and electrical plans) are completed, in collaboration with the respective specialists from these fields.

The firestop products and solutions to be used in a construction project are specified in the firestop design. These products and solutions must be compatible with each other and form a functional system in terms of both operation and maintenance. The firestop design is supplemented by the manufacturer’s documentation for firestop products and solutions. The individual responsible for the building and specialist designs must have the necessary education and experience required for the quality and complexity of the construction project.
